So if you’re visiting this page you must be an athlete or runner, or maybe you are wanting to start running or another sport and are wondering how you keep yourself healthy while doing it. Maybe you live with an athlete or runner and are sick and tired of hearing them complain about (insert random foot issue). Whatever the reason, you have come to the right place! All of our docs (and many of our staff) at PPFAC are athletes and understand first hand not only the athlete's body but the athlete's mind!
Let's talk running specifically for a moment. Once a sport only for the elite and dreaded by most of the rest of us, running has hit an all time high as a sport, especially among women. In 2010, the number of marathoners topped the half million mark and in 2011, women encompassed 59% of half marathon finishers. With its new found popularity, it's no surprise that injuries and misinformation are on the rise as well. At our practice you will not only find caring compassionate doctors who RUN but also the quickest way possible to get you on the path to running pain free. You will find that it's rare for us to tell someone not to run. This is limited mostly to fractures and tears. If at all possible, we will work with your training schedule and make appropriate adjustments to keep you running during your treatment regimen. We will be aggressive and it will take work on your part, you will not hear "take this medicine and rest", we are all about active recovery!
With any sport, during a visit to our office, you will also hear a whole lot about prevention of not only your current problem, but also new ones that might crop up. As much as we love our patients, we would rather see them doing their sport, or running on the Prairie Path than running into our office!
