I hear this all the time when I have to decrease my patients exercise regimen or running...or {GASP} if I have to put someone on total rest. Most of us use exercise as a way to burn off the excess calories, therefore when we can't get that calorie burn...well the weight can pack on. I just had a wake up call myself! Just 8 weeks after running a marathon I realized the scale was clocking in 11 pounds over what it did the week of the marathon. Basically, I just kept eating the same, but my mileage had DRASTICALLY dropped due to an IT band injury. And boy did that show on the scale!
