There are many advanteages to using the night splint. It keeps your foot at a 90 degree angle while you are sleeping. Therefore, your foot is getting a great stretch more than it would be if laying in a regular relaxed position. Our doctors will typically recommend the night splint for patients who have pain when first rising from a seated position or especially in the morning with those first few steps out of bed. In many cases, the ligament in the foot is shortened while at rest and scar tissue can build up at night that then is damaged/stretched/pulled when the foot is again in a neutral 90 degree position.
