Sometimes heel pain seems to come ‘out of the blue’, however there usually is a cause.  The most common causes are:

1-Running, especially sprinting 

2-Cleats- lacrosse, soccer, baseball, football any cleat can increase the risk because they put undue pressure on the heel growth plate

3-Poor support or cushioning in shoes- again cleats fall into this category 

4-Hard Ground- The cleats aren’t able to dig into the ground as designed and thus put retrograde prssure onto the heel growth plate

5-Structural issues- tight heel cord or flatfeet predispose kid’s to heel pain

6-Weight- If a child is overweight they are more likely to have heel pain simply because they put more stress with every step.
