Local anesthesia is the medicine administered through a needle to “numb” a particular area.  This is what is used for most dental procedures (as well as in-office podiatry procedures). MAC anesthesia stands for monitored anesthesia care and uses an IV medication to provide a “twlilight” sleep state, where you breath on your own, but this is used often in surgical centers to ensure your comfort and relaxation during bigger procedures such as bunions and hammertoes.
