The answer to this question depends on the bunion. Some larger or more unstable bunions require more protection after surgery which can in some cases require a splint or cast for a few weeks or so. That being said, most of our bunion patients are partially weight bearing the day of surgery (putting pressure on the heel).  We do recommend that you take it very easy the first few days after surgery, getting up for meals and to use the bathroom only.  This will help with swelling which decreases pain levels and lowers your risk of infection.  Our MLS laser also helps to reduce pain and down time after surgery by stimulating healing and reducing swelling and inflammation.
