Unknown leg pain and swelling without injury can be worrisome for any physician.  After a physical examination, our physicians or your primary care doctor may send you for a Doppler exam to rule out a DVT, or deep vein thrombosis.  DVT's are not taken lightly as they are blood clots that could potentially travel to the lungs.  The Doppler test is performed in a hospital setting and results are discussed immediately.  If a DVT is diagnosed, inpatient action may be needed for proper medication and monitoring.  If no DVT is present, you will return to your regular podiatrist for additional examination and imaging.
