It could be a contributing factor, especially if they were too small, too tight or very pointy. However, the more likely cause is your foot type, flat arch vs high arch, and how that foot type works when you are walking.  So while we always advocate good supportive shoes with a roomy toe box, it's not the only contributing factor.
