If you think you have an ingrown nail, it is NOT recommended to trim it yourself . If it is growing into the skin and if you try to "dig" it out, you could be doing more harm than good! One of the first things you can do if you think you have an ingrown nail is to soak the foot in warm water with epsom salts or antibacterial soap. Soaking an ingrown nail if infected will help relieve the pain and pressure on that toe. It can also help draw out any drainage or pus that may be affecting it. If you think you have an ingrown nail, and soaking does not relieve pain, or if you see drainage or break in skin, it is important to seek attention from your podiatrist.
