A broken bone, or a fracture, needs attention in order for it to heal properly. Often getting attention also will relieve your pain.  It should be diagnosed with an Xray and treated with immobilization.  However depending on the location and severity, you may be in a removable CAM walker or depending on the bone and severity of the fracture you may need a below knee fiberglass cast and you may need crutches or a rollabout scooter to remain nonweightbearing.   In some occasions, if the fracture is displaced, (not in a good position), or it is in a location where it is very difficult to heal due to blood flow to certain areas of bone, then surgery is warranted.  If you think you have a fracture or if you are not sure, make an appointment.
