Q How do I prevent a wart from returning on my foot?
After completing the treatment plan to rid your feet of warts, or verruca plantaris virus, it is important to work to prevent their return. It is important to discourage the environment that harbored these viruses in the first place. This includes keeping your feet as clean and moisturized as possible as small cuts in your foot act as entry points for new verruca viruses. Also, never go barefoot in public locker rooms, gyms, or showers; always use pool shoes or waterproof sandals or our favorite, Spenco recovery sandals. Preventing sweat and excessive moisture to accumulate in your socks and shoes also prevents the virus from thriving, so using a sport sock with a cotton blend (we recommend Feetures! in our office) which wicks the moisture away from your skin. Regularly spraying your shoes with tineacide spray (also carried in our office) will also inhibit the environment.
