I have a few criteria that tell me it may be time to operate on a patient. While the answer is based on every individual case, these are some reasons that lead patients to surgical intervention:
1-Pain preventing you from wearing certain types of shoes
2-Pain when you push off the ground when walking
3-The big toe is "crowding" or bumping into the 2nd toe.
4-You feel "crunching" or "popping" in your big toe joint.
5-You have persistent redness or swelling in the area.
If you have any of these symptoms (or you just want to have your bunion "checked out"), schedule with Dr. Doyle today for a x-rays and a full evaluation.
