Physical therapy consists of many modalities to help decrease pain and swelling, while at the same time increase function and flexibility and strength. We often send our patients for physical therapy as an augment to current treatment protocols for patients post injury or post surgery for advanced modalities that are beyond simple exercises at home.   However, physical therapy will not get rid of a bony deformity, such as a bunion or hammer toes.  It may help decrease pain and increase flexibility in conjunction with custom orthotics, but will never make them completely disappear.
