All too often, patients come into the clinic with bunion pain that seems to be aggravated by shoe gear.  If that is you, there are a few things you can do to make your feet feel more comfortable in your shoes

First, opt for shoes that have a rounded or square toe box. Narrow shoes tend to aggravate the pain associated with a bunion.  Choose shoes that have adequate support through the arch. Avoid sky-high heels that put strain on the ball of your foot, or flat shoes like flip flops or ballet flats.

Do not settle when you are shoe shopping! It is important to try shoes on before purchasing. There are plenty of reputable shoe stores that will measure your foot to ensure you purchase shoes that are the appropriate length and width for your foot type. Choosing the right shoe can help you avoid significant foot discomfort.
