It’s easy to get stuck in a fitness rut. Sometimes we become comfortable in our workout routine, which can ultimately hinder progress. Cross training with cycling, swimming, yoga or strength training can kick a stale routine to the curb! But what are the benefits of cross training?

  1. Injury prevention: The primary muscle groups used in running are the hamstrings and the calves. Using other muscle groups can prevent injury.
  2. Faster recovery from injury: Keeping active while resting your injured part will keep the blood flowing, leading to increased healing
  3. Improved fitness: You can increase balance and muscle strength with yoga or strength training, which can improve stability during the foot strike phase of the run cycle
  4. Prevents boredom and burnout: Cross training can help you maintain your enthusiasm for your sport

So if you are recovering from an injury or simply need a little diversity in your routine, consider giving cross training a try.
