Why not use medicated corn pads? Because the "medication" that is on the corn pads is actually an acid that can damage the skin. I advise my patients to be wary of over the counter medicated corn pads, especially patients with poor circulation, diabetic neuropathy and otherwise poor sensation. As this material is applied to the skin, I have seen this cause irritation at the very least, and possibly even lead to an open sore or ulceration. Instead of self treatment, corns and calluses should be diagnosed and treated by a professional. At Prairie Path Foot and Ankle Clinic, we will help you come up with a comprehensive treatment plan so you don't have to treat those corns and calluses yourself. Especially if you are diabetic or have neuropathy, you should not be treating these on your own.
