Q
What's wrong with my child having flat feet?

A

A child's foot can appear flat for the first 2-3 years of life, but after this flat feet IS a concern.  Flat feet beyond this age can lead to flatfeet as an adult which is linked with many foot problems.  A flatter foot structure puts strain on the tendons on the inside of the foot, as they try hard to hold the arch up and this can cause tendinitis and possibly a tendon tear.  Another result of flat feet is unlocking and instability of joints in the front of the foot, which can lead to the formation of bunions and also hammertoes.

The good news is that you can do something for your child BEFORE those flat feet lead to painful conditions!  Call our office for an evaluation by one of our foot specialists.
