Q
What is an ankle sprain?

A

Many of us have twisted an ankle here and there, and often we bounce right back. However if you twist your ankle and you find your ankle swollen and painful, possibly bruised or black and blue, then there is a chance you have an ankle sprain.  A sprain is the damage of soft tissue of ligaments or tendons that surround the ankle that may be stretched or torn.  A tendon is where the muscle attaches to the bone, and a ligament is tissue that attaches two bones together.  All of the tendons and ligaments in the ankle help support and allow your ankle to function when walking or running. At PPFAC, our doctors will do a thorough history and take digital x rays in the office to find out if it is a bony issue.   So if you believe you may have sprained your ankle, you should contact our office for a full exam and treatment plan.
