Q
What does it mean if the back of my heel hurts?

A

If the back of your heel hurts, it may be an injury to the achilles tendon.  The achilles tendon is part of the gastroc soleus muscle, which courses from the calf and inserts on the back of the heel.  It may hurt in certain shoes or certain activities, and it may occur due to an acute injury or just repetitive trauma over time.  If you think you may have an achilles tendon injury or any type of foot injury, make an appointment with one of our doctors.
