Q
Do topical treatments ever work for nail fungus?

A

The efficacy of topical meds to treat your toenail fungus varies.  There are four things that determine how well they work:

1-Which medication you use is very important.  Some have efficacy rates as low as 11% and some as high as 80%

2-How diligent you are at putting it on also affects how well the topicals work.  They must be put on twice everyday for about 6-9 months.

3- The degree to which your nails are infected will help the doctors at PPFAC determine how effective they will be in your case.  The short answer....the thicker the nail, the less likely a topical treatment will work.

4- Treating the skin and shoes is also important in many cases.  If you miss these vital components to treatment, it severely decreases your chance of seeing clear nails with the topical meds.

Our doctors at PPFAC are happy to take a look at your nails and tell you which treatment would be best for your nails.
